Manchester United are planning a move for Borussia Dortmund centre back Neven Subotic as Sir Alex Ferguson looks to strengthen his back line. Having seen Rio Ferdinand continue to struggle with injury and Jonny Evans experience a severe drop in form, the Old Trafford boss is hoping to sign the Serbian youngster this summer.
Subotic has been dubbed the ‘New Vidic’ and the 22 year old has been in fine form this term helping his side to a seemingly unassailable lead at the top of the Bundesliga which has led to growing interest in his services. The likes of Chelsea and Real Madrid have also been strongly linked with the former Mainz man.
Dortmund’s amazing success this term has been based on a strong back line that has conceded just 14 goals in 24 matches and a lot of that defensive success is down to the superb mature displays Subotic puts in week in, week out.
Ferguson is reportedly planning a summer re-shaping of his Man United squad and as well as a number of the club’s veterans bowing out, such as Gary Neville and Edwin van der Sar, a number of under performing players are also said to be likely to be offloaded as the Scot looks to freshen things up at the club.
It is believed that the Man United boss is willing to pay the €25m (£22m) valuation on the young talent but it may take some bartering to convince Jürgen Klopp to sell one of the club’s most prized possessions and a lot could depend on whether the player himself is tempted by the high profile move.
