Arsenal duo Robin van Persie and Theo Walcott have been ruled out for three weeks meaning they will miss the Champions League last 16 second-leg tie against Barcelona.

But captain Cesc Fabregas may recover from his hamstring injury to lead the team out at the Nou Camp.

Striker Robin Van Persie injured his knee scoring the equaliser in the Carling Cup final before later being substituted.

“Unfortunately, we had bad news on the scan and he will be out for the next three weeks for sure,” said Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger to the club website..

“It could be longer. The shortest delay we can imagine is three weeks [so] he is definitely out for Barcelona.”

Fabregas and Walcott were both injured in the last Premier League game against Stoke City. Walcott was carried off on a stretcher after a tackle by Dean Whitehead injured his ankle.

“He (Walcott) is out,” said Wenger. “We said from the day he got the injury against Stoke you could count three weeks.”

Whilst Fabregas hobbled off after 15 minutes with a hamstring injury, but boss Wenger is hopeful his captain will be fit for the Barcelona tie.

“Cesc is looking possible [for that game]. He is making quick and good progress. It is possible.”
