Montpellier fullback Mapou Yanga-M’Biwa is being tracked by Arsenal.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has had scouts check on the 22 year-old in recent games.
Yanga-M’Biwa can also play at centre-half and has over two years left on his current deal.
The youngster has spent his entire career at Montpellier.
Whilst there is no doubting Arsene Wenger’s talent and ability when it comes to unearthing a gem and polishing that player into the finished article, one does wonder if Arsenal supporters wish he just splashed the cash once in a while on an established player rather than always attempting to scout out a star in the making.
Mapou Yanga-M’Biwa is now in his fifth season in the Montpellier first team and can play across the defence but is primarily a right back and whilst 21 year old may well have a bright future do Arsenal really need to continue purchasing up and coming youngsters, don’t they already have a squad and youth system jam packed with them?
Looking at the club’s back-line, you would have thought that Arsene Wenger would be looking for a more experienced player to add more strength in depth at the back. Thomas Vermaelen appears to have some severe injury concerns, Sebastien Squillaci has looked off the pace and also has his fair share of knocks, Laurent Koscielny has looked good at times and woeful at others so the one really big bright spot is the continued consistency shown by Johan Djourou.
Arsenal supporters will expect the club to spend to improve their squad this summer, especially if the club fails to win anything meaningful silverware. So will they really be happy with this type of signing?
