Sunderland defender Michael Turner will return before the end of the season according to his manager Steve Bruce.

Turner has been out of action since November with a knee ligament injury.

He was due to make his comeback in last weekend’s defeat to Everton but suffered a setback, prompting fears he could miss the rest of the season.

But Bruce dismissed this speculation and claimed Turner will play a part in this campaign.

“We’ve seen a specialist and the one thing he’s got to do now is get his thigh muscles stronger,” Bruce told the club’s website.

“It’s still disappointing for Michael but we’re still hoping he’ll be back some time in the coming weeks.”
