Tottenham are eyeing up a shock White Hart Lane return for Blackburn goalkeeper Paul Robinson, Goal.com UK can reveal.

Spurs manager Harry Redknapp wants top-level competition for current No.1 Heurelho Gomes, whose kicking has been affected by groin injuries in the last two years.
Gomes’ deputy Carlo Cudicini, who has stood in for the Brazilian in eight games this season and replaced him when he was injured and sent off in two others, is out of contract in the summer.

Robinson has rebuilt his career since joining Blackburn for £3.5 million in 2008 after his confidence was shattered in his final season at Spurs and he lost his England place.

Although the 31-year-old has since retired from international football, he still has ambitions to play for a Champions League calibre club.

Blackburn would want £5m for Robinson, whose contract at Ewood Park runs until 2013.

Paul Robinson would surely consider a return to a Tottenham side that looks very healthy at present, a Tottenham side that could offer the former England man a shot at Champions League football, would he however be keen on a move that would see the 31 year old having to fight for the starting spot with Heurelho Gomes?

Indeed there is some speculation that the North London side would be willing to use former Ewood Park midfielder David Bentley as part of a swap deal, an offer that Rovers would surely be tempted by as the 26 year old would add some much needed creativity to the Lancashire side’s first team set-up.

Tottenham have a number of players they could offer as part of any deal to land Paul Robinson and indeed the club’s chairman Daniel Levy is reportedly pushing for Redknapp to sell before he buys. The likes of Robbie Keane, Alan Hutton, Vedran Corluka and Roman Pavlyuchenko are all apparently very much either looking to leave to further their first team ambitions or just surplus to requirements at the club.

Robinson apparently still has a great love for Tottenham and was a player the club’s supporters remember fondly during his four years at the club during which time he notched up 175 appearances.
