Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish is believed to have moved a step closer to solving his team’s left back woes, as Marseille defender Taye Taiwo is thought to have held talks with the Anfield club.
Taiwo is out of contract in the summer, and has stated himself he will move to one of the best teams in Europe.
“My agent and I are in advanced talks with a club from one of Europe’s top three leagues and I expect to reach an agreement in the near future,” said Taiwo.
“Because I said I want to leave, the coach now decides when to use me. That doesn’t bother me. I have made up my mind and I have told them I’m going.”
Liverpool’s chase for a left back could be at an end. Having been linked with moves for Newcastle United’s Jose Enrique and Benfica youngster Fabio Coentrao it seems that a move to sign Marseille man Taye Taiwo may be on the cards. The 25 year old Nigerian international will be leaving the Ligue 1 champions this summer and this source believes a deal is almost done to bring him to Anfield.
Having spent seven years at the Stade Velodrome Taiwo is looking for a new challenge and he has stated his desire to play in the Premier League before and that ambition could well be about to be fulfilled. Kenny Dalglish could well do with a quality left sided defender and the attack minded Nigerian international seems an ideal candidate for the job.
Emiliano Insua and Paul Konchesky are currently out on loan and are reportedly likely to be sold this summer. Glen Johnson has been filling in on the left but has had to revert back to the right after impressive youngster Martin Kelly got injured and Fabio Aurelio is also now injured and primarily only a back up at the club.
