Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew obviously knows winger Puncheon very well indeed having signed the Croydon born attacker from MK Dons when he was in charge at St Mary’s and it is fair to say that during his loan spell at Blackpool the 24 year old has shown that he can make the leap from the lower leagues to the top tier fairly easily.

Given that the Magpies got a cool £35m from the sale of Andy Carroll to Liverpool you would imagine that Pardew would have a fair bit to spend but that clearly depends on owner Mike Ashley and financial issues aside the idea that the St James’ Park side could nab Puncheon for £500k is nothing short of a huge bargain.

Puncheon has shown great potential and has improved rapidly over the past 18 months and appears to have the bit between his teeth and will want to secure a permanent Premier League move and would surely jump at the chance of a move to a club the size of Newcastle United.

Indeed given that Wayne Routledge is apparently likely to make his loan move to QPR a permanent one such a fee should be more than covered by the sale of one winger to finance a deal to sign another. First things first though, Pardew will also have to try to keep hold of the likes of Joey Barton, Jonas Gutierrez and Jose Enrique this summer and having tied Cheik Tiote to a lucrative long term deal, perhaps there will be money made available to either bring in quality additions to to offer big salary hikes to those players who are key to the club’s long term progress.
