Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson will this summer look to clinch the signing of Bolton centre back Gary Cahill after seeing his side struggle to cope with injury and loss of form suffered by his current crop of defensive options.
Bolton had reportedly placed a £25m price-tag on the 25 year old England international and it’s a price that has apparently scared off interest from the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea who are both seemingly in need of fresh options at the back, but Ferguson is willing to meet the Trotters demands to land the in form Sheffield born defender.
Owen Coyle will be loathed to lose a player who has been in such consistent form over the past two seasons but is unlikely to stand in the way of a big money move, not least because the Reebok Stadium side could do with the cash to help cover some of the club’s debts.
Ferguson has watched on as Rio Ferdinand lurches from one injury to the next and Jonny Evans suffers a run of poor form. Nemanja Vidic has been a rock for Man United but has also had issues with both knocks and suspensions. However the form shown by youngster Chris Smalling has been a plus for the Premier League table toppers but now they will look to strengthen their back line with the signing of the former Aston Villa man.
