After another busy week in World Football, it’s time to once again wrap-up the best of this week’s news from the Rumor Mill. Get ready for a few surprises and sensational moves from some of the world’s biggest clubs. Here are the week’s biggest transfer rumors ranked by the likelihood of the deals of eventuating:
Aston Villa are reportedly lining up a move for Manchester United bench warmer, Michael Owenwhen his contract expires in the summer. Gérard Houllier is apparently keen on the forward, as Villa look to revive after their collapse at the start of the season.
According to the Guardian, Fulham manager Mark Hughes has demanded a pay rise after he received interest from Bayern Munich. But Hughes was quick to play the speculation down saying:
“Sometimes, when a job becomes vacant then people look around to see whether there are any connections in terms of past playing careers or whatever. I think there’s no more in it than that.”
The Guardian also reports that Fulham are prepared to sell Zoltan Gera to Newcastle in order to raise a few funds.
Various sources are reporting that Chelsea are lining up a move for Real Madrid and Spain right-back Sergio Ramos in a deal worth €35m. The deal is not the only rumor flying around Stamford Bridge at the moment, with Roman Abramovich demanding an improvement on the pitch.
After a rather disappointing month, Arsenal have begun to make plans for the transfer window, making Schalke striker Mario Gavranovic a priority. Mario Who? If Arsenal are seriously interested in challenging for the Premiership and Champions League they would at least make plans to buy a big name forward, rather than a dodgy no-name £7m signing.
Arsenal are also reportedly interested in acquiring the services of Charlton full-back Carl Jenkinson.
Birmingham’s Sebastian Larsson is being chased by two big La Liga clubs according to the Daily Mail. I’m predicting those two mystery clubs are Barcelona and Real Madrid because after all, they are the only big clubs in La Liga.
No surprise, Liverpool have once again been linked to a full-back, this time with Osasuna left-back Ignacio “Nacho” Monreal.
Barcelona have been been linked with a big money move for Tottenham’s Gareth Bale. It is also rumored that Javier Mascherano could be on his way to White Hart Lane as a part of that deal.
