Rennes man to make move to Anfield.
Reports in France suggest that Liverpool have won the race to sign highly rated winger Sylvain Marveaux this summer. The Rennes attacker is out of contract at the end of the season and Anfield director of football Damien Comolli has been involved in lengthy talks to bring the former French Under 21 international to Merseyside and a deal has reportedly finally been agreed.
The Rennes winger has been at the Ligue 1 side since the age of 15 but decided some months ago that he would not be renewing his contract at the Stade de la Route de Lorient, and for the past two months has been the subject of intense interest.
Liverpool have been looking to add more natural width to their attack and the move to sign Marveaux will cast doubts over the future of the likes of Milan Jovanovic and Joe Cole as the new addition can play on either wing and is on the fringe of the French national team set-up after a very consistent season last term.
Comolli’s knowledge of the French game and his connections with the various national team set-ups, in particular the youth and Under 21 teams, is thought to have been key in negotiations and it is thought that intelligent wide man will put pen to paper on a three year deal this summer.
