La Liga side keen on Goodison Park cult hero.
Spanish giants Valencia are targeting Everton midfielder Mikel Arteta.
The star’s agent Inaki Ibanez is thought to have been sounded out by the club’s sporting director Braulio Vazquez about a possible summer move.
Arteta, 29, often has been linked with a return to Spain, with Atletico Madrid closely watching developments.
Everton boss David Moyes will be keen to keep hold of one of his prized assets, although Valencia, also eyeing former Liverpool playmaker Albert Riera, are expected to severely test his resolve.

With worries over the possible Everton future’s of the likes Leighton Baines, Jack Rodwell, Marouane Fellaini and others, David Moyes could probably do without the news that Valencia are keen on midfielder Mikel Arteta. The 29 year old former Rangers man is a cult hero at Goodison Park with good reason. The talented set piece specialist is a quality player who has served the Toffees well for quite some time.
Now in his seventh season at the Merseyside club and with recurring issues relating to the club’s finances threatening to lead to Moyes leaving the club, Arteta may feel that a move back to La Liga may be well timed. Valencia of course have had their fair share of financial problems that led to the Mestalla side selling David Silva and David Villa.
Unai Emery’s side may also be set to sell young attacker Juan Mata but are still handily placed in third spot behind the usual top two, so it appears that even without their big name stars Los Che still have a lot to offer.
However Arteta may in fact have no interest in moving back to Spain, in fact the San Sebastian born flair player has only played half a season of his professional career in his native country.
