Dutch winger in link with Mancini’s City
According to reports in the German newspaper Bild, Manchester City are interested in Hamburg winger Eljero Elia with the German club looking to sell the speedster.
The dutch international has been a target for both Liverpool and Arsenal in recent seasons but it’s believed that due to City’s recent links with Hamburg they are front runners for his signature with city securing the services of Nigel de Jong, Vincent Kompany and Jerome Boateng over recent seasons.
“In sporting terms we would like to keep him, but when we receive a good offer …” said technical director Bastian Reinhardt. With City’s financial power it is unlikely that if Elia has been identified as a target they will baulk at the £12million asking price.
Man City have been criticised in recent weeks about their lack of width, as well as boss Mancini’s perceived negative tactics. If indeed they do complete the signing of the Dutch winger it would surely put rest to those claims.
Do the citizens need to strengthen in this position with the likes of Adam Johnson, Shaun Wright-Phillips and young Slovakian winger Vladimir Weiss in their ranks?
Regardless of whom they sign and for whatever cost the future of Manchester City is set to be bright, and bright blue at that.
