Sir Alex Ferguson hopes to bring Werder Bremen winger to Old Trafford.
Manchester United are preparing a summer move for Werder Bremen winger Marko Marin. Sir Alex Ferguson is looking for a long term replacement for veteran Old Trafford hero Ryan Giggs and has sent scouts to monitor the young German international who has been dubbed the ‘German Messi’.
The 22 year old wide man has been a consistent performer in the Bundesliga and is one of the German league’s top assist makers and given Werder Bremen’s poor season the pint sized winger could be ready for a new challenge and would surely be tempted by a prospective move to Manchester United.
Marin is valued at around £15m and would be a relatively modest investment as Ferguson looks to build a new generation of talent at the club as a number of his senior stars edge toward the end of their respective careers. The Premier League table toppers brought in youngster Javier Hernandez and Chris Smalling last summer with promising results and the Man United boss is hoping to bring in further additions in the summer.
Former Man United defender Mikael Silvestre, who plays alongside Marin at the Weserstadion, is glowing in his praise of the speedy winger
“He makes sparks fly,”
“He’s a player that is producing a lot for us at the moment. He launches counter-attacks, he’s unpredictable, and that makes him difficult to stop.
“He’s still got some progress to make, and he’ll become more mature, but I’m happy to be able to play alongside him.”
The Croatian born German international showed his abilities of a higher stage during some explosive displays in the Champions League this term. With almost 200 appearances to his the youngster has progressed well since his move to Werder Bremen from Borussia Monchengladbach two seasons ago. Marin may feel the time is right to leave his current employers after seeing the club slump to 12th place after a third placed finish last term.
Ferguson has been promised significant funds to reinvest in his squad and having already reportedly been linked with a number of high profile targets, including most prominently Aston Villa’s Ashley Young and Everton youngster Jack Rodwell, the Scot may feel a move for Marko Marin a more financially astute and intelligent capture.
