Anfield outfit prepare for the worst.
LIVERPOOL will make a move for Manchester City goalkeeper Shay Given in the summer.
Anfield bosses are resigned to losing Spanish ‘keeper Pepe Reina and Kenny Dalglish wants City’s Given, 34, who has been frozen out at Eastlands this season by City manager Roberto Mancini.
Dalglish first took the Republic of Ireland international to Blackburn from Celtic when he was in charge at Ewood Park and Given was aged just 17 – and he remains a huge fan.

This is an interesting piece of transfer gossip but there are clearly a number of issues to consider before debating such a move.
1) The source is of course hideously unreliable
2) The story suggests that Liverpool are ‘resigned’ to losing Pepe Reina, which seems over the top and not accurate
3) Man City are unlikely to sell to a club they deem as a rival.
So there you have it, seems less likely now doesn’t it? It is worth remembering that Arsenal were strongly linked with a move for £8m rated Shay Given and an offer was apparently made and turned down instantly by Mancini because he has no intention of selling the Irish international to a rival team, something that kind of puts the former Newcastle United man in a pickle.
There has been interest from Celtic and Fulham but apparently the 34 year old is less keen on those moves. If, and that’s a big IF, Liverpool do lose Pepe Reina then Given would be an intelligent replacement, not least because back up Brad Jones is surely not first team starter material.
Shay Given has not played a single minute of Premier League football this season and has been left to rot on the City bench which is a crying shame because the Donegal born custodian is one of the best in the business. Having an in form Joe Hart in front of him in the pecking order means that he must look to leave the club this summer to avoid more bench warming.
Kenny Dalglish obviously has connections with Given from his Blackburn Rovers days but any more, if needed, will probably be blocked by Mancini. However the fact that Man City are reportedly interested Alberto Aquilani so perhaps a swap deal could be forthcoming?
Liverpool are apparently looking to make drastic alterations to the squad this summer with as many as eight first team squad players on their way out with the likes of Milan Jovanovic, Joe Cole, Paul Konchesky, Christian Poulsen and Maxi all linked with Anfield exits.
