Stacey Solomon and Tenors Unlimited sign up to sing at Wembley showpiece in front of Eastlands and Britannia Stadium fans.
Former X Factor star Stacey Solomon has agreed to sing the national anthem before the FA Cup final, the Football Association has confirmed.
The popstar will be swapping the ‘I’m a Celebrity’ jungle for Wembley stadium on May 14 before Manchester City face Stoke City for the oldest cup competition in the world.
Solomon is from Dagenham in Essex and came third in the 2009 show of the X Factor. A year later she won ‘I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here’.
“I am so excited at the thought of performing at The FA Cup Final in front of millions of people around the world. Wow, what an amazing opportunity,” she said.
“This time last year I’d never imagined it possible. I hope I do a good job for all the fans there on the day.
“It’s such an honour to be asked to sing at the FA Cup Final this year and my dad and boyfriend are well chuffed.
“The thought of singing in front of so many thousands of fans is so scary though, probably the scariest thing I’ve done yet.
“Even some of the tasks in the jungle weren’t this scary.
“I’m so excited though and I even get to watch the match afterwards.”
She will be joined by three-piece vocal group, Tenors Unlimited, who will perform the traditional FA Cup Final hymn, Abide with Me.
Scott, Paul and Jem from Tenors Unlimited have a strong association with football having performed at Sir Bobby Robson’s memorial in Durham Cathedral in September 2009.
“We’re delighted and honoured to be invited to sing at this year’s FA Cup Final,” Tenors Unlimited said.
“We know it’s a massive game and shown on TV around the world so we can’t wait to make our Wembley Stadium debut on 14 May.”
