Man United to Make Shock Move to Re-Sign £9m Atletico Madrid Striker Diego Forlan

Old Trafford boss to offer Uruguayan chance to make up for previous flop spell.

Diego Forlan could make a sensational return to Manchester United after signalling his desire to leave Atletico Madrid.
The 31-year-old striker has been involved in a bust-up with his manager, Quique Sanchez Flores, and the La Liga club are prepared to entertain offers of around £9million for their star striker.

Tottenham are also keen on Forlan despite failing with a £17m bid for the Uruguay international in January.
But it is the movement of United which comes as a surprise considering his disappointing spell with the Old Trafford club where he scored just 10 goals in 60 appearances.
Forlan has endured a frustrating season with Atletico finding the back of the net on just eight occasions in La Liga.

Now this would be rather surprising but perhaps it’s a move that could suit all parties? Sir Alex Ferguson clearly has three strong attacking options in Wayne Rooney, Dimitar Berbatov and Javier Hernandez and given that Michael Owen is unlikely to be offered a new deal and that Danny Welbeck may well turn his temporary move to Sunderland into a permanent one, perhaps there is room for a fourth striker at Old Trafford?

Diego Forlan was of course a massive flop during his previous spell at the club, netting 17 goals in 98 appearances during his two and a half year spell at the club. However the Uruguayan has gone on to become a huge success in La Liga where he managed to 59 goals in three seasons at Villarreal before the Yellow Submarines bid the Montevideo born striker farewell.

The move to the Vincente Calderon has continued to prove just what a lethal attacking weapon the 31 year old can be. Forlan has formed a great partnership with Sergio Aguero and amassed an astonishing 96 goals in four seasons.

Atletico Madrid are reportedly struggling financially and will in all likelihood miss out on a Champions League spot and this could well lead to the sales of the club’s big stars and perhaps Ferguson is keen to see Forlan prove himself in the English top tier though Tottenham are also thought to be keen.
