Would Joey Barton be a help or hindrance at Anfield?
Newcastle United midfielder Joey Barton has been linked with a transfer to Liverpool across the whole media in the last 24 hours.
Sky Sports report that the Magpies could be tempted to sell with a £5m bid, as his contract runs out at the end of next season.
Still, would he be an asset to the Anfield team?
On the pitch, almost certainly.
After all, eight of Andy Carroll’s Premier League goals have been directly assisted by Joey Barton.
He has proved versatile in moving between central midfield and the right flank, and is both creative and capable of getting stuck in.
Sometimes though, he gets too stuck in.
On the pitch punching Blackburn winger Morten Gamst Pedersen in the stomach, or off it in a plethora of unceremonious instances – not least assault on former team mate Osmane Dabo, controversy follows Barton wherever he goes – no matter how many times he assures the public he has matured.
Is this an image Liverpool Football Club want associated with them?
In my opinion Joey Barton certainly possesses the football talent to play for Liverpool, but not the temperament.
What do you think?
