Emirates boss moves nearer to securing two long term targets.
The agent of Stuttgart defender Serdar Tasci has hinted at Arsenal interest.
The Gunners are keen on the 24 year-old Germany international.
And Maurizio Gaudino told Calciomercato.it: “There are important foreign teams (Arsenal) that follow the player, but still there is nothing concrete.
“The player is ready to make a new experience.”
Former Holland international striker Kees Kist is backing Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen for a move to the Premier League.
The Belgium international has been a long-term target for Arsenal, while Liverpool are also being linked due to his friendship with Luis Suarez.
Kist declared: “He is without doubt the leader of Ajax, exudes calm and organizes things.
“Jan really is a step above everything here. It would not hurt him to go to England or Spain.”
Arsenal’s defence has been uncharacteristically lax this season and a lot of that appears down to the fact that Arsene Wenger failed to adequately replace outgoing experienced centre backs William Gallas and Sol Campbell. The club could probably have already have done with beefing up their defence before the two veterans left but the signings of Laurent Koscielny and Sebastien Squillaci have failed to fix the problem.
Both French signings have struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League and long term injury to Thomas Vermaelen has exacerbated the problem. Luckily Johan Djourou has stepped up and started to deliver on his obvious potential. Wenger tried to sign Phil Jagielka last summer and is apparently also now interested in Bolton’s Gary Cahill but moves for the two players named by this source are more likely and cheaper alternatives, they are certainly more ‘Wenger-type’ signings.
Ajax centre back Jan Vertonghen used to figure alongside Vermaelen at the Amsterdam Arena and they are Belgian international team-mates and there appears to be a great deal of speculation that the 24 year old would be an intelligent purchase. The powerfully built defender can also fill in as defensive midfielder, which could tempt Wenger.
Serdar Tasci is another promising 24 year old who looks set to leave Mercedes-Benz Arena after five seasons as a first team regular. The German international’s decision to leave has been prompted by a disastrous Bundesliga campaign that has seen Stuttgart threatened with relegation for the majority of the campaign and the poor season is in marked contrast to Tasci’s first forays into the first team that led to a domestic title back in 2007.
Arsenal are reportedly set to spend this summer in order to bring an end to six silverware-less seasons and this pair of defenders would probably cost a combined fee of around £25m and there is growing speculation that a number of under performing Gunners stars may be sold in order to help generate transfer funds with the likes of Manuel Almunia, Nicklas Bendtner, Gael Clichy, Denilson and Andrei Arshavin all linked with moves away from North London.
