Old Trafford move on the cards for Dutch international.
Manchester United have reportedly secured a deal to sign Ajax goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg according to Dutch newspaperHet Laatste Nieuws who state that the club’s keeper coach Eric Steele has been in contact with the Dutch international’s agent, former Birmingham City player Nico Vaesen.
Sir Alex Ferguson has been linked with a myriad of prospective replacements for Edwin Van der Sar, who is due to retire at the end of the season, with the likes of Liverpool goalie Pepe Reina, Atletico Madrid youngster David De Gea and German number one Manuel Neuer.
The Man United boss knows the importance of bringing in an experienced top level custodian to Old Trafford and Stekelenburg could well be the right fit for the club. The 28 year old Ajax man has over 250 appearances to his name and helped Holland to the World Cup Final last summer.
Ferguson signed Anders Lindegaard in January but the Danish international is seen as a back up and many sources believe Tomasz Kuszczak is set to leave the club after failing to convince as a potential first team regular.
Having spent his entire career at Ajax, who have not secured an Eredivisie title in seven years, Stekelenburg would surely jump at the chance of a move to Man United.
