Anfield side to make offer for long term target.
Liverpool are reportedly ready to make fresh moves to sign Hamburg winger Eljero Elia this summer. The Anfield side is just one of many potential suitors interested in the 24 year old but the former FC Twente man has made it clear that a move to Merseyside would be his preferred destination according to NUsport.
£15m rated Elia was strongly linked with a move to Liverpool under previous manager Rafa Benitez and talk of a move away from his Bundesliga side increased after the wide man fell out with Hamburg’s previous boss Armin Veh and though things have improved for the Dutch international under new boss Michael Oenning a move to the Premier League is still very much of interest.
Kenny Dalglish has apparently been looking for potential winger signings as he looks to add more natural width to the club’s attack. Currently the club most often uses Dirk Kuyt and Maxi out wide and whilst both are hard working players who do make an impact, neither are traditional wide men and as both are 30 years of age a move for fresh options would make a great deal of sense.
Liverpool have been linked with moves for other wingers including Stewart Downing and Ashley Young but director of football Damien Comolli has been looking at potential additions from the continent and appears to rate Eljero Elia who is a regular in Bert van Marwijk’s Dutch international set-up and was part of the World Cup squad last summer.
Juventus and Wolfsburg are also said to be pursuing Elia.
