Ten players Alan Pardew may want to consider bringing to St James’ Park.
Newcastle United had an up and down season last term but secured a decent 12th placed finish on their return to the Premier League and did so even after Mike Ashley had harshly sacked Chris Hughton and then Alan Pardew saw Andy Carroll leave on transfer deadline day in January. In fact the Magpies would’ve finished ninth had they not blown a 3-0 lead on the last day of the season.
There is a fear that Pardew could lose some of his star performers this summer with contract talks with Joey Barton reportedly stalling and Jose Enrique expected to leave the St James’ Park side did at least pin down Cheik Tiote to a long term deal.
The North-East club will almost certainly be keen on bringing a striker or two to the club in the summer and may also look to reinforce their midfield. The club appear to have a decent array of centre backs with the likes of Fabio Coloccini, Steven Taylor and Mike Williamson to call upon. Young keeper Tim Krul is keeping veteran Steve Harper on his toes so there may not be a need for a new custodian.
Of course any summer transfer spending plans depend a great deal on whether owner Mike Ashley will be willing to hand over the cash from the sale of Carroll to Liverpool. Let’s just imagine that he will, see ten potential signings below.
