After the alarming drop of form at the Stadium of Light, Steve Bruce will need to restore confidence to his side with a few quality signings.
Steve Bruce must not be able to believe his luck sometimes.
Sunderland were off to a fine start this season, getting good results against Chelsea and Arsenal and looking good for a European place.
But then star striker Darren Bent demanded a move to Aston Villa and at £18million plus add-ons, the money was too good to turn down.
Then the rot set in.
From February, Sunderland lost 10 out of their 14 games that saw the Black Cats plummet down the league and the threat of relegation became a serious one.
It is wrong to blame Darren Bent as the cause. Of course it did not help him leaving but the remaining players did not step up to the plate after he went.
Bruce will then be searching for players who will not crumble under the pressure and may make a few experienced signings to help guide his young squad.
A striker is needed but also more depth in midfield required and possibly a wide man to give Sunderland better attacking options.
Bruce will not be spending quite so heavily as he has in the past but with the Bent money (mostly) available expect him to be busy.
Anyway, without further ado. Here are ten names Bruce will be contemplating on bringing to the Stadium of Light.
Charles N’Zogbia (Wigan)
Worked with Bruce at Wigan and are both fans of each other. His versatility is a big plus for Bruce as the Frenchman can play left-back, left-wing or just behind the striker.
