White Hart Lane boss makes Nou Camp starlet his first summer signing.
Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has signed Barcelona youngster Cristian Ceballos from right under the noses of Chelsea.
The 16-year-old was hailed as a superstar four years ago after appearing in a video juggling a ball with Ronaldinho that became an internet hit.
But the Catalan giants fell out with the attacking midfielder over contract negotiations and Ceballos is now a free agent.
He spent two weeks undergoing a trial at Chelsea’s training ground at Cobham with the youth and senior teams, with the Blues keen to sign him.
But Redknapp has pulled off a coup by tying the teenager to a three-year deal and and his representative predicts Ceballos will make the first-team within a year.
“The boy captained Barca’s Under-17’s and here we have a proper player, potentially one of the greats if he develops as people think he might,” a source close to the player said.
“He went to Chelsea for two weeks and trained for three days with the first-team before a Champions League game such was the impression he made, but for some strange reason no one seemed to make a decision about him.
“Now, he has signed a three-year contract with Spurs and Harry Redknapp has a player who will be in his first-team within a year.”
