Anfield boss ready to raid St James’ Park again.
Liverpool are reportedly readying a bid for Newcastle United pair Jose Enrique and Jonas Gutierrez. The Anfield side have already made an offer for Spanish left back Enrique but the initial £4m offer was apparently rejected but boss Kenny Dalglish is ready to up his offer and apparently look to bring in the Argentine winger as well.
The left sided pair have worked well as a partnership for the past three seasons and Alan Pardew is working hard to keep both in form players at St James’ Park. The Magpies boss is also struggling to keep midfielder Joey Barton at the club after contract talks with the England hopeful broke down yesterday.
Liverpool have been looking to bring left sided options for the best part of a year and are hoping to see Enrique and Gutierrez work in tandem as they have done at Newcastle United. Of course the Merseyside club raided the Tyneside club in January when they forked out £35m for striker Andy Carroll, a fee of around £20-22m may be enough to secure the Toon Army wide-men.
Enrique has just one year left on his current deal so his value has substantially decreased. Kenny Dalglish has been looking to sign a left back as he is likely to allow Emiliano Insua and Paul Konchesky to leave in the summer. Glen Johnson and Danny Wilson have both been used as make-shift solutions to the problem area and the club have been encouraged by the form of youngster Jack Robinson but feel they need to bring in an experienced player to fill the slot.
The left wing role has similarly been an area the Anfield club have struggled to fill. Ryan Babel failed to make an impact and though in recent weeks Maxi has improved the Argentine is still not a natural option in the wide role. Gutierrez would be an ideal candidate for the job and Liverpool have also been linked with moves to sign Stewart Downing in recent weeks.
