Anfield boss to move for St Andrew’s idol.
Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish will take advantage of Birmingham City’s relegation trouble by swooping for defender Scott Dann.
The Liverpool Echo reports Dalglish will make his move to create competition at the heart of the Reds’ defence.
The 24-year-old missed the majority of last season through injury but many observers believe Birmingham may have survived if he was fit.
Liverpool-born Dann will be expected to fight for his place alongside Jamie Carragher, Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger.
Dalglish wants Dann because Sotirios Kyrgiakos is likely to leave Anfield this summer and Agger has a history of being injury-prone.
The former England U21 international would fit into Fenway Sports Group’s philosophy of buying players who could have a high resale value.
Dann started his career at Walsall befoe moving to Coventry City in 2008 and was soon made captain by Chris Coleman.
Birmingham swooped a year later and signed him for £3.5million and he formed a solid partnership with Roger Johnson.
Dalglish has further plans to strengthen his defence. He has had a £4million bid turned down for Newcastle United’s Jose Enrique and is also after Celtic’s Emilio Izaguirre.
