Old Trafford boss ready to spend.
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has been promised a substantial transfer kitty for the coming summer and the Old Trafford boss plans to splash the cash on five targets he feels will help in his re-building of a squad that is in the process of a transition of sorts.
With veterans Gary Neville and Edwin van der Sar bowing out and the likes of Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs nearing the end of their glittering careers, Ferguson is looking to spend big on youthful signings he feels will be part of the club’s long term plans.
Man United are already close to completing a deal to sign Atletico Madrid keeper David de Gea and after the Champions League Final, Ferguson will submit offers for other targets. He will look to entice Everton midfielder Jack Rodwell into leaving Goodison Park, an act that may prove more tricky given that the youngster is tied to a long term contract at the Merseyside club.
Ferguson will also test the water with a bid for Tottenham playmaker Luka Modric and the Man United manager will hope that the North London club’s inability to clinch a Champions League spot for next term will help in his attempts to lure the Croat to the Premier League champions.
Sir Alex will then look to tempt Sunderland boss Steve Bruce into considering offers for midfielder Jordan Henderson and may offer on loan striker Danny Welbeck as part payment for the England international. Another young English talent on the club’s radar is Blackburn Rovers centre back Phil Jones who at 19, has shown great maturity at the heart of the Ewood Park defence.
Man United’s owners have made it clear they will finance any moves Ferguson wishes to make this summer and the Old Trafford supremo is ready and willing to make offers for players he feels could form part of a new wave of ‘Fledglings’ to add to last summer’s signings of Chris Smalling and Javier Hernandez, who have both impressed this season.
