Bloomfield Road star tops Old Trafford wanted list as San Siro hero stays put.
Manchester United will move to sign Blackpool captain Charlie Adam after Wesley Sneijder ruled out leaving Inter Milan this summer.
The Seasider’s star is likely to be sold following his team’s relegation to the Championship and United are now in pole position to sign him.
Manager Sir Alex Ferguson wants a successor to the veteran Paul Scholes and had wanted to sign Inter Milan playmaker Sneijder.
But the Dutch international has ruled out a summer move but with Scholes contemplating retirement Ferguson needs cover now.
Adam has had a fantastic season and has established himself as one of the best crossers and dead ball specialists in the Premier League.
He was the subject of interest from Liverpool in January but Blackpool decided to keep him to help fight off relegation.
Ferguson will now enter the race for him as Sneijder states he will be at the San Siro next season and is concentrating on the Coppa Italia.
“Next season? I’ll be here,” Sneijder told the Corriere dello Sport. “I’ll certainly be there against Palermo.
“I want to play and win the Coppa Italia so that we can end the season in a good manner.”
