St James’ Park club turn down Anfield offer.
Liverpool have had a £4million offer for Newcastle United defender Jose Enrique rejected by the Tyneside club.
The Daily Mirror reports Reds’ manager Kenny Dalglish is a big fan of the 25-year-old and will make an improved offer.
The Scot has had a left-back high on his list of priorities since returning to the club in January but Newcastle view the offer as way too low and value the Spaniard at closer to £15million.
Negotiations are ongoing with Toon boss Alan Pardew desperate to push the fee up as high as possible but the feeling around St James’ Park is Enrique has his heart set on a move to Anfield.
The left-back has only one year left on his current deal and wants to move to a club with genuine Champions League aspirations.
Pardew admits Enrique is likely to be sold because he will not sign a new contract.
“There’s no point keeping a player who has set his sights on a club he has perceived is bigger,” Pardew said. “You can’t keep a player that’s unmotivated.”
