Ferguson keen to bring Blackpool man to Old Trafford.
Sir Alex Ferguson is readying a bid for Blackpool playmaker Charlie Adam as the Old Trafford boss looks to replace Paul Scholes, who announced his retirement from the game today. The Man United manager is known to be an admirer of the Scottish international and is confident he can beat the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham to sign the Tangerines midfielder.
Ian Holloway has stated his belief that he will lose a number of his Blackpool squad this summer and must expect Adam to push for a move from Bloomfield Road after the 25 year old stated his desire to leave the Lancashire club in January. The former Rangers man was persuaded to stick with the club and even though the talented midfielder had a great season he couldn’t prevent his side from being relegated on the last day of the season.
Ferguson is on the look out for a goalscoring midfielder and has been linked with a number of potential signings, including Inter Milan’s Wesley Sneijder, who has stated his desire to stay at the San Siro. Man United have a number of central midfield options but the likes of Anderson, Michael Carrick, Darren Fletcher and Darron Gibson fail to weigh in with many goals whereas Charlie Adam has shown over the past two seasons that he can expertly link midfield to attack.
Adam netted 12 Premier League goals and assisted another nine, which is a great return when you consider he was plying his trade with a club who finished second from bottom. The fact that he put in two excellent performances against Man United this season will also not have harmed his chances of securing a dream move to Old Trafford.
Blackpool are believe to value the Dundee born midfielder at around £16m, which in today’s market is by no means excessive, especially as his club took an option to increase Adam’s contract by another twelve months meaning that he is bound to the club until the summer of 2013.
