White Hart Lane club prepare for life after star with Old Trafford calling.
Tottenham Hotspur have identified Dinamo Zagreb midfielder Milan Badelj as the perfect replacement for Luka Modric.
Modric has been coveted by Manchester United, who are expected to up their interest now veteran Paul Scholes has announced his retirement.
It is not the first time Badelj has taken over the mantle left by Modric after filling his international team-mate’s boots in 2008 when Modric left Zagreb for Tottenham.
The Daily Mail reports the Croatian club are asking for £8.5million for their creative midfielder but Zagreb are hoping for a bidding war to start.
The fee should not be much of an ask as United are expected to offer £25million to prize Modric to Old Trafford.
But Spurs may have to act fast as Badelj, 22, is attracting interest from Wolfsburg, CSKA Moscow and Zenit St Petersburg.
Tottenham are also in the market for Villarreal hit-man Giuseppe Rossi but face competition from Barcelona.
