Stadium of Light boss wants Old Trafford pair.
Sunderland will move to sign Manchester United duo Darron Gibson and Wes Brown to kick-off their summer re-building plan.
The Black Cats’ manager Steve Bruce will raid his old club in an effort to strengthen his squad that suffered an alarming drop in form in the last half of the season.
Gibson, 24, will be allowed to leave United as Sir Alex Ferguson plans an overhaul of his playing staff that won the Premier league but lost the Champions League final to Barcelona.
Bruce wants the Irishman to replace Liverpool-bound Jordan Henderson, who was once a target for the Red Devils.
Henderson is expected to leave for around £16million and the Sunderland boss will use that to lure the £6million-rated Gibson to the North-East.
Brown is also a major target after the former England international fell out with Ferguson over his lack of first-team action.
The 31-year-old has only 12 months left on his current deal and United are expected to cash in on him this summer.
But Bruce may have a fight to sign the veteran defender with Bolton also keeping close tabs on him.
