Barcelona are preparing a cheeky £28million plus Thiago Alcantara bid for Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas, less than they offered last year.

The La Liga and Champions League winners are nowhere near the £54million valuation Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has for the midfielder.

In an extra twist, Barca want a option to buy back the £7million-rated Alcantara whenever they want inserted into his contract.

The Catalan giants offered £38million last summer in cash but have reduced their bid according to the Daily Mirror because they claim there are concerns over the 23-year-old’s fitness.

Because of injury, Fabregas only started 29 games in all competitions for the Gunners last season but still scored nine goals and created 14 assists.

The proposal will undoubtedly be replied with a firm no as Wenger is reluctant to lose his skipper, especially at such a low price.

Barcelona are reportedly closing in Villarreal striker Giuseppe Rossi in a £40million deal and chasing Udinese winger Alexis Sanchez.
