Stadium of Light boss to net three from Old Trafford sale.

Vote Now in the 2010/11 COS Awards: Make Your Voice Heard! understands Sunderland are closing in on the signing of Manchester United midfielder Darron Gibson.

Gibson along with United team-mates Wes Brown and John O’Shea was the subject of a £12million bid from Sunderland.
Talks are believed to have progressed well and Gibson has agreed terms to make the move to Stadium of Light.

Sunderland value the 23-year-old midfielder at £5million and United are ready to let the midfielder leave.

Gibson has reluctantly accepted he will have to quit United in search of regular first-team football and he will hope to kick-start his career on Wearside.

The Republic of Ireland international will help fill the void left by Jordan Henderson’s departure to Liverpool.
Sunderland are now waiting to see if they can agree deals with Brown and O’Shea as they look to make it a triple raid on Old Trafford.

With Sir Alex Ferguson looking to bring in new youthful signing it is perhaps not surprising that Man United would look to trim their squad and Steve Bruce seems keen to reap the rewards of such a sale. Midfielder Darron Gibson saw his form drop somewhat last term and the Ireland international seems unlikely to land a regular spot in the centre of the Old Trafford midfield, even after Paul Scholes’s retirement.

Wes Brown seems doomed to leave United having reportedly fallen out with Ferguson and John O’Shea was seeing his first team chances limited due to the top notch performances from Brazilian youngster Rafael and both could do well out of a move to the Stadium of Light.

Steve Bruce is also said to be keen on Danny Welbeck after the England Under 21 international impressed in patches during his season long loan at the club last term. However it appears that Ferguson is not looking to sell the youngster just yet but another loan deal may be amenable to both sides.

The likes of Gabriel Obertan, Bebe and Tomasz Kuszczak may also be offloaded as the Premier League champions look to conduct something of a squad clear-out.
