As Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish and director of football Damien Comolli look to re-build their decidedly average squad in pursuit of a top four push they will undoubtedly be looking to sign a left back, seemingly a priority that needs to be addressed.

It seems clear that club’s American owners are ready to splash the cash in order to achieve that Champions League dream and having already signed Luis Suarez, Andy Carroll and Jordan Henderson for a combined fee of around £75m, more new signings are expected and the left side of the defence is clearly an area that needs investment.

Having seen Paul Konchesky, Emiliano Insua, Andrea Dossena and Fabio Aurelio all fail to make an impact over the past two seasons and also used the likes of Glen Johnson, Danny Wilson out of position to fill the gap, a number of players have been sounded out as possible solutions to the well known problem area.
