Nou Camp president reveals Emirates hero is still high on his wish list.
Barcelona president Sandro Rosell admits his club will not pay £35million for Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas, but revealed the midfielder is doing everything he can to join the Catalan giants.
The 24-year-old has always expressed his love for Barca, where he grew up, but has not demanded to leave for fear of a backlash from Gunners fans.
The Spain international said last week he was happy at Arsenal but also admitted it is his dream to play with the Nou Camp side.
Barcelona had a £42million offer rejected last summer for Fabregas but fell short of the £50million valuation, which Arsenal still believe is fair.
The Gunners’ chairman Peter Hill-Wood revealed there had been contact with the Catalan club this week, saying Fabregas’ desire to return home was ‘understandable’.
Rosell claims Barca will not pay over the odds for the midfielder as the finances at the Nou Camp are tight, despite being La Liga and European champions.
“He (Cesc) is doing everything he can to come (here),” he told Catalan station TV3 on Monday night.
“Guardiola knows the values of players and Cesc’s is less than €40million. Barcelona will offer less and if they (Arsenal) don’t accept, then he won’t come.
“Pep knows the club is not well-off in terms of money.”
