Steve Bruce seals deal to bring Old Trafford squad players to the Stadium of Light.
Manchester United defender John O’Shea is undergoing a medical at Sunderland, according to Press Association Sport.
The news agency reported the 30-year-old travelled to Wearside on Thursday morning after team-mate Wes Brown had a medical at the club on Wednesday night.
The Black Cats had a joint bid of more than £12m for the pair plus midfielder Darron Gibson accepted in June.
Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has already made six summer signings to date, including Seb Larsson and Ji Dong-won.

It seems Steve Bruce has completed something of a bargain buy with this one. The former Man United stalwart clearly used his connections to help swing this one and the capture of this Old Trafford trio will help add more strength in depth to the Black Cats squad to add to the many signings Sunderland have already made this summer.
Clearly Sir Alex Ferguson was likely to trim his squad having spent over £50m bringing in Phil Jones, Ashley Young and David de Gea from Blackburn Rovers, Aston Villa and Atletico Madrid respectively. Having already farmed out Bebe on a season long loan deal to Besiktas it seems the Old Trafford boss is keen to streamline his squad ahead of further possible additions.
John O’Shea and Wes Brown have amassed over 700 appearances for Man United and are useful performers who can ply their trade in a number of positions and it may well be this adaptability that appealed most to Bruce who has already signed Ahmed Elmohamady on a permanent deal after his successful stint on loan last season.
Bruce has also nabbed Connor Wickham, Sebastian Larsson, Craig Gardner, Keiren Westwood and South Korean striker Ji Dong-Won this summer for a combined fee of around £15m but did of course lose young midfielder Jordan Henderson to Liverpool.
