Emirates club want Mestalla hero.
Arsenal have made a £15million bid for Valencia winger Juan Mata and he will not be a replacement for midfielder Samir Nasri.
The Spain international has impressed Gunners boss Arsene Wenger and the Frenchman knows this is a marquee signing the fans are desperate for.
The 23-year-old’s signature could be key to convincing Nasri that Arsenal are still an ambitious club.
The France international has so far stalled on signing a £90,000-a-week contract as he wants assurances over the north London’s club transfer targets.
The Gunners are desperate to keep hold of Nasri, who is booked to fly with the team to Kuala Lumpur on Sunday.
He has one-year remaining on his contract and has been rumoured to be moving to Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea.
Wenger will make another attempt to keep Nasri by offering him anew deal worth £100,000-a-week.
Valencia have insisted Mata is not for sale, but his father, Juan Senior, suggested negotiations between the two clubs have begun.
“There have been calls from foreign clubs but now the decision rests with Valencia. [Juan] is on his holidays,” he said in the Mirror newspaper.
