White Hart Lane boss identifies next big Croatian star.
Tottenham Hotspur are preparing an £8million deal to bring Hadjuk Split forward Ante Vukusic to White Hart Lane, but face competition from other Premier League clubs.
Arsenal and Chelsea have also sent scouts to watch the 20-year-old but Spurs boss Harry Redknapp wants the star labelled ‘the next Luka Modric’.
But the Tottenham manager wants Vukusic to play alongside his fellow Croat rather than replace Modric, who is a £25million target for Chelsea.
Vukusic scored 18 goals last season for his club and attracted interest from all over Europe but is keen on moving to play alongside his idol Modric, according to the Daily Star.
A source close to the player said: “Ante wants to play in England and it’s only a matter of time before he does.
“All the top clubs already know a lot about him because of his performances for Hajduk last season.
“Comparisons with Modric are inevitable because he looks just as good as he did at the same age.”
Meanwhile, Redknapp admits Modric is “confused” about his future but is still determined to hang on to his star midfielder.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy insists the player – who wants a move to Chelsea – will not be leaving this summer after holding showdown talks with the Croatian.
Redknapp said: “He’s walked in today and is happy, but the kid’s a bit confused. Other teams want him but we want him here.
“It’s a difficult situation for him and I understand where he’s coming from.”
