DW Stadium star wanted at Villa Park.
Aston Villa will invest the £20million from the sale of Stewart Downing immediately with a double bid for Wigan’s Charles N’Zogbia and West Ham’s Scott Parker.
The Midlands club have a bumper £36million war chest following the departure of Downing and Ashley Young to Manchester United
Villa boss Alex McLeish wants N’Zogbia, 25, to replace the Liverpool-bound winger and looks likely to get his man with a £10million offer.
The Scot tried to sign the Frenchman during his time at Birmingham City, but the deal collapsed over personal terms.
Parker, 30, is also on the club’s radar and they are likely to up their interest with a £7million bid for the England international.
There are suggestions of a bid already being made but these are wide of the mark. Tottenham, Arsenal and Chelsea are also interested in Parker.
Villa have also made enquiries for Manchester City’s Shay Given and Shaun Wright-Phillips, as well as Spartak Moscow’s Aiden McGeady.
Given is likely to become McLeish’s first signing in a £3.5million deal to replace Brad Friedel, who left for Tottenham earlier this summer.
