Old Trafford boss keen on Bernabeu midfielder.
Man United are reportedly considering a move to sign Real Madrid star Lassana Diarra as Sir Alex Ferguson looks to add more steel to his midfield. The Old Trafford boss is looking for an out and out defensive midfielder and is apparently a big admirer of the former Chelsea and Arsenal player.
Having opted to not offer injury prone Owen Hargreaves a new deal, Ferguson is looking for a midfield battler and has been consistently linked with a move for the 26 year old Bernabeu star who has been told by Jose Mourinho that his first team chances will be limited next season as he looks to give more playing time to German international Sami Khedira.
Ferguson has been strongly linked with moves for other strong tackling midfielders, most frequently referenced being Yann M’Vila of Rennes and Roma’s Daniele De Rossi but a move for Diarra appears the most cost effective move as Mourinho may opt to accept around £10m for the French international as he looks to trim his expansive squad.
Man United have already forked out over £50m to bring Ashley Young, Phil Jones and David de Gea from Aston Villa, Blackburn Rovers and Atletico Madrid respectively and the good relationship he enjoys with Mourinho may help secure a deal to bring Diarra back to the Premier League.
Diarra failed to secure regular first team football at both Chelsea and Arsenal before a move to Portsmouth saw his star rise and after one hugely successful season at Fratton Park the Paris born former Le Havre man was sold to Real Madrid.
Ferguson is keen to further improve his squad as he looks to maintain his stranglehold on the Premier League title as well as challenging for a Champions League triumph. Whilst the Scot has a number of central midfield options the likes of Anderson, Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher are not out and out defensive midfield options, hence the Man United manager looking at possible additions to fill that role.
