Etihad Stadium boss wants Anfield star.
Manchester City are keen on Liverpool midfielder Alberto Aquilani and Roberto Mancini will reportedly look to make an offer for the Italian international as he looks to bring in further summer additions having thus far signed Gael Clichy and Stefan Savic from Arsenal and Partizan Belgrade respectively.
The 27 year old Anfield man spent last season on loan at Juventus and his consistent performances for the struggling Serie A giants led to a recall to the national team but the former Roma man still seems likely to not be a first team regular at Liverpool.
Aquilani was farmed out last term due to the lack of first team opportunities and the summer arrivals of Jordan Henderson and Charlie Adam will only further push the Rome born midfielder down the pecking order, though his recent performances in the club’s pre-season tour of Asia have been impressive.
Mancini is looking to add more creativity to his Etihad Stadium midfield and may test the waters with a bid for the £12m rated Aquilani but Dalglish may not wish to sell the talented midfielder to a team he will be battling for a top four berth next term.
There is also said to be interest in Aquilani from Serie A sides Fiorentina and AC Milan and ideally Liverpool would look to sell abroad although perhaps recent performances may negate a sale at all.
Dalglish already has a number of midfield options with the likes of Lucas, Steven Gerrard and Raul Meireles also uppermost in the Scot’s thoughts as well as the aforementioned Adam and Henderson.
Man City also have a number of options with James Milner, Gareth Barry, Nigel de Jong and Yaya Toure to call upon to fill central roles but Roberto Mancini wants to make additions as his side looks to challenge on multiple fronts and the chance to play Champions League football may well appeal to Aquilani.
