Emirates Stadium boss prepared to stump up big fee for midfielder with huge potential.
Arsene Wenger is ready to meet Lille’s valuation of prized asset Eden Hazard and wants to snap up the Belgian international before cash rich Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain can step in and snatch the playmaker from Arsenal’s grasp.
Wenger is feeling the pressure to bring in big name signings as he looks to appease the club’s fan base and star performers who want to see the North London side show their ambition by spending big in the transfer market in order to improve the club’s squad after six seasons without securing silverware.
Arsenal have tracked Hazard for the best part of two years and having seen the 20 year old play a key role in helping Lille to their first domestic title in over 50 years, Wenger is now ready to make a concerted effort to sign the goal scoring attacking midfielder.
Indeed Wenger has stated his intention to keep Samir Nasri this summer even though he is aware that would likely lead to the former Marseille man leaving next summer, this is another reason the Emirates Stadium boss is looking to bring in Hazard as a long term replacement for the Arsenal star.
Lille are struggling to keep their title winning squad together having lost Gervinho to Arsenal and Yohan Cabaye to Newcastle United and seem resigned to losing Hazard and have accordingly reportedly slapped a €25m (£22m) valuation on their remaining prized asset, a price that Wenger now seem willing to pay.
Whilst Hazard could be considered another youthful signing he is also a player who is ready to make an immediate impact after three consistent seasons as a virtual ever present at the Stade Lille-Metropole.
Arsene Wenger is reportedly also looking to trim squad players to help make room for much needed additions. Denilson has already been loaned back to his former club Sao Paulo and the likes of Kyle Bartley and Nicklas Bendtner appear to be on offer on similar temporary deals.
