Stamford Bridge club want teenager.
Chelsea have offered £18million for Anderlecht striker Romelu Lukaku as they kick start their summer transfer plans.
Negotiations for the 18-year-old have been ongoing since last month but the Blues have now made an official offer.
The west London club have become alarmed by their rivals, notably Arsenal and Manchester City, showing interest in the Belgium international and have bid first to gain the upper hand.
Lukaku has scored twice in 10 games for his national team and scored a hat-trick in his side’s pre-season friendly victory last week.
He is one of the most promising talents in European football and has been likened to Didier Drogba, according to BBC Sport.
In June, Anderlecht general manager Herman van Holsbeeck said: “There is still a long way to go in the negotiations.
“We are indeed negotiating with Chelsea, but there are other clubs we are talking to.”
This could bve the second Belgian signing Chelsea make this summer after securing an £8million deal for Genk goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois on Monday.
