Goodison Park hero could be on his way to Emirates.
Arsenal have made a £10million bid for Everton defender Phil Jagielka as manager Arsene Wenger looks to kick-start his summer transfer spending.
The 28-year-old, who has four years left on his contract, is the latest centre-back to be linked with the Gunners.
Wenger has inquired into Gary Cahill and Christopher Samba but is unlikely to pay what their clubs are asking for. Birmingham City defender Scott Dann is another target.
Everton are likely to dismiss the bid because they value their centre back at about £20 million, according to The Times.
But the Toffees do realise they need to sell before they can buy and strengthen areas of their squad.
Arsenal want to sign at least one defender before the Emirates Cup begins on July 30 and are keen to have a few more fresh faces by then too.
Wenger is looking at signing wingers Juan Mata or Eden Hazard, while Southampton’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is eager for a move to the Emirates.
The Gunners boss may also make a move for Roma midfielder Daniele de Rossi, but any other moves will depend on whether Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri can be persuaded to stay.
