Emirates Stadium boss keen on French international.
Arsenal are reportedly planning a £25m bid for Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema as Arsene Wenger looks to bring in big name signings to help appease the club’s supporters and top performers as the North London side prepare to spend big to help end six seasons without silverware.
Benzema is a long term target of the Gunners boss who has been linked with interest in the French international since he burst onto the scene at Lyon. The Arsenal boss is keen to bring in further attacking options and even though the club have brought in Gervinho from Lille they are still very much looking to bring in a ‘marquee’ signing this summer.
Whilst the club’s first choice striker Robin Van Persie is a prolific performer he has also been plagued with injuries throughout his time at the club and with the likes of Nicklas Bendtner, Carlos Vela and Marouane Chamakh all struggling to make an impact there may well be a need to make a move for further fire-power.
Benzema is by no means a first choice starter at the Bernabeu and Jose Mourinho’s constant linking with strikers Carlos Tevez and Neymar suggests that the Real Madrid boss is looking for a striker to help support first choice, Argentine international Gonzalo Higuain.
There is also speculation that the La Liga giants may look to bring Man City’s Emmanuel Adebayor back to the club for another loan spell.
Benzema struggled in his first season in Spain, netting nine goals in 33 appearances, however when called upon to replace Higuain, who suffered a herniated lumbar disc, the 23 year old found his goalscoring form, scoring 26 goals in all competitions.
