Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish wants Wigans Colombian star Hugo Rodallega but will have to pay £9million to get him.

Dalglish is keen to bring in the powerful attacker to give Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez some top-class {support as the Kop aim to get back on the glory trail this season.

Rodallega has impressed Dalglish in the past couple of years, often dazzling against the Anfield side in games, and he thinks the South American would be a huge asset.

Dalglish is looking to move out David Ngog and Milan Jovanovic as he improves the quality of his options and he knows Suarez and Carroll will pick up injuries because of their all-action styles.

This would be most bizarre. The argument that Liverpool may need back up options for Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll is one thing but to claim that Hugo Rodallega is ‘top-class’ is surely an over exaggeration to say the least. The Wigan striker has netted 22 goals in 94 matches for the Latics, which is by no means a prolific rate, about on a par with Carlton Cole.

One could also argue that in Dirk Kuyt, a striker with a proven pedigree who has been converted into a right sided midfielder, Liverpool have a more able striking back up if needed. And whilst David N’Gog is by no means the polished article some would have hoped for, the former PSG man has been in good form during pre-season and his record of 19 goals from 41 starts (plus numerous substitute roles) is not that shabby.

Liverpool have already spent a great deal this summer bringing in Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam, Doni and Stewart Downing and one would imagine that Kenny Dalglish would be looking to strengthen his back line before spending any more on his attacking third.

The Merseyside club has had a very leaky defence in pre-season action and will need to bring in a left back with the likes of Jose Enrique and Marcell Jansen strongly linked with the role. The club may also look to beef up their central defensive area given that Jamie Carragher and Sotirios Kyrgiakos are over 30 and Daniel Agger has his fair share of injury problems.

It seems hugely unlikely that Rodallega would therefore be on Dalglish’s radar this summer.
