White Hart Lane boss wants giant striker.
Tottenham will turn this attention to Atletico Bilbao’s giant striker Fernando Llorente as Harry Redknapp readies a move to improve his faltering strike force. The Spanish international is thought to be considering leaving the Basque country having spent 15 years at the San Mamés.
The 6ft 5in Pamplona born forward has spent seven seasons as a regular in the Atletico Bilbao first team and appears ready to try a new challenge and a move to the Premier League is though to attract Llorente, who has repeatedly been linked with moves to the La Liga giants Barcelona and Real Madrid.
A move to either the Nou Camp and the Bernabeu have failed to materialise leaving the Spanish international with no option other than to consider options away from Spain. Llorente has done well to forge a role in the national team set-up, despite no playing for the big two and the 26 year old has impressed Vicente del Bosque when called upon.
Llorente may feel that a high profile move may help the big front man pushing the likes of David Villa and Fernando Torres for a more regular starting role and he may feel that a move to White Hart Lane could help him realise Champions League ambitions that he was unable to fulfill at Atletico Bilbao.
Redknapp will realise it will take an ambitious offer to convince Atletico Bilbao president Josu Urrutia to sell the club’s prized possession and the White Hart Lane boss also needs to garner funds to make a big enough offer and to that end is desperate to sell some of his squad players.
Llorente has become a crucial player at the mid table La Liga, having netted 72 goals over the past four seasons.
Having sold Jamie O’Hara to Wolves, Redknapp will have to hope that offers will be forthcoming for Niko Kranjcar and David Bentley who are reportedly targeted by PSG and Aston Villa respectively. Napoli have shown interest in Wilson Palacios and Giovani dos Santos will hope that a La Liga side will have been impressed by his loan spell at Racing Santander next term.
The Tottenham boss may also consider offloading one of his current crop of strikers, with Peter Crouch being linked with interest from former club QPR and Robbie Keane likely to also be available for transfer having spent the second half of last season at West Ham.
Redknapp would also hope that capturing a big name like Fernando Llorente may also appease Luka Modric, who is being courted by Chelsea.
