San Siro side keen on Anfield Italian.
AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has opened the door to signing Liverpool midfielder Alberto Aquilani.
The Italy international is desperate to return to Serie A for the new season.
When asked about a possible move for Aquilani, Galliani smiled: “Aquilani our ‘Mister X’? Well, that could happen.”
The midfielder has seen a switch to Fiorentina fall through this week.
By all accounts AC Milan’s interest in Alberto Aquilani is very real and given that the Italian international’s move to Fiorentina apparently only fell through because the Italian is not keen on another loan deal and wants to complete a permanent return to Serie A and as long as the San Siro giants are willing to meet Liverpool’s valuation, a deal may well be sealed before the end of August.
Liverpool are apparently looking to receive upwards of £10m for the 27 year old former Roma man, a fee that Juventus, who took the midfielder on loan last term, were unwilling to pay hence Aquilani’s return to Merseyside.
The talented Italian has now fought his way back into the national team set-up and is therefore keen to secure regular first team football and knows that doing so at Anfield will be very tricky indeed. He failed to get a regular start during his first season under Benitez and was then sent out on loan and now that Kenny Dalglish has brought in Charlie Adam and Jordan Henderson the chances of Aquilani getting a starting spot are even slimmer than before.
Massimiliano Allegri helped the Rossoneri to a Serie A title in his first season at the helm and having allowed Andrea Pirlo move to Juventus the San Siro boss may see Alberto Aquilani as a useful addition to the club’s midfield.
Dalglish is keen to bring in further additions to his squad but also wants to trim some deadwood from the Liverpool squad and having sold Paul Konchesky to Leicester City the Scot is reportedly ready to accept offers for a number of squad players including Aquilani. The likes of Milan Jovanovic, Christian Poulsen, Joe Cole and David N’Gog are all reportedly surplus to requirements.
