Portuguese club rule out move for Emirates reject.
Sporting Lisbvon have denied reports linking the club with a £9million move for Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger gave the 23-year-old time off “to sort out his future” and he was photographed in Portugal.
Borussia Dortmund were heavily linked with the Denmark international but it appeared Sporting had won the race.
The transfer fee was supposed to be used to bolster Arsenal’s finances to strengthen other areas, such as the £3million bid for Everton defender Phil Jagielka.
Bendtner was expected to complete a move over the weekend but Sporting director Carlos Freitas has dismissed the claims.
“There is no truth in this news,” Freitas told a press conference. “Bendtner is just as close to joining Sporting as [Gonzalo] Higuain, [Didier] Drogba or [Bojan] Krkic.
It is pure fiction.”
Bendtner is one of three Arsenal players expected to leave this summer, with Emmanuel Eboue and Manuel Almunia also not part of Wenger’s plans.
Wenger has also claimed captain Cesc Fabregas’ future will be sorted soon amid speculation linking him Barcelona.
The Spain international will not take part in the Emirates Cup because he is not in the right frame of mind.
