Nou Camp starlet rejected Anfield switch.
Barcelona forward has rejected the chance to move to Liverpool and will play his football at Sporting Lisbon next season.
The 23-year-old had one-year left on his current deal and was deemed surplus to requirements at the Nou Camp. He will now move to Portugal for a fee of around £4million.
The Spain international played 13 games for the Spanish and European champions with his sole goal coming in Barcelona’s 5-0 thrashing of Real Madrid.
He helped his country win the U21 European championship earlier this summer.
The Catalans confirmed Jeffren had been given permission to leave Barca’s pre-season tour in the United States to “negotiate his contract” with Sporting.
Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola told reporters in Miami that “(Jeffren) has helped us a lot in the last three years, but given his age we thought it better that he play more.”
Liverpool wanted to sign him and made several enquiries into his availability with director of football, Damien Comolli, meeting his representatives.
It is understood Jeffren chose a move to Sporting over Liverpool because of the culture similarities and he wanted to play European football.
Sporting are also in discussions with Arsenal over striker Nicklas Bendtner but talks have stalled over transfer cost and salary.
